Please Meet the Generous 2009 Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Sponsors
ANGUS
Scheel Angus, Inc, Larry Scheel, New Richmond, WI on behalf of the Minnesota Angus Association.
We have been in the cattle business since 1968 and started breeding registered Angus cattle in 1995. We raise about 50 registered Angus cows. Our cattle are sold private treaty. In addition, we have 220 Black Angus /cross commercial cows on the west coast. Our philosophy has always been to raise cattle with the following traits: fertile, highly maternal, extra muscle, fleshing ability and performance. With this in mind, we feel we have developed a very high performing and efficient cow herd. Weaning averages are over 600 lbs.
Our program continues to use the top AI sires in the breed along with some of our best home grown sires. Our goal is to raise bulls that will add pay weight to our calf crop and leave you with the best replacement females available. We are now getting into using more donor females to reach our goals faster.
The Scheel family is proud to be a sponsor of the MN Youth Beef Experience. Thank you for your interest in the Scheel Angus Inc. operation.
CHAROLAIS
Stony Brook Livestock, Larry & Kathy Balvitsch, Foley, MN on behalf of the Minnesota/Wisconsin Charolais Association.
Larry and Kathy started out with a small farrow-feeder hog operation and a few crossbred cows. In 1989, they purchased their first Charolais female and soon thereafter, the operation was solely based on Charolais cattle.
Their children, Rodney & Lori, were both active in 4-H and the state and national Charolais associations and activities. The Balvitsch family has enjoyed showing cattle on different levels in many different states. Granddaughter, Cass, travelled to Sacramento California for her seventh appearance at the Junior National.
They remain active in the Minnesota Wisconsin Charolais Association where Larry is currently serving as a director. Breeding stock continues to be available for sale by private treaty.
We are honored to be a part of the MN Youth Beef Experience Program. We look forward to sharing our passion for the breed with the recipient of our 2009 donation heifer.

SHORTHORN
JDMC Cattle Co. Cody Nelson, Jeff Morris & Doug Bruns, Renville, MN, on behalf of the Minnesota Shorthorn Association.
Although JDMC Cattle Company was recently established, its members are well experienced in the livestock industry. JDMC came to be when lifelong friends Jeff Morris, Doug Bruns, Cody Nelson and families, decided to pool their resources and become business partners. Along with running about 125 purebred Shorthorn cows, we maintain a 400 acre farming operation for feed and cash crops near Renville, Minnesota.
In 2008, the start to our herd growth began with purchasing a herd of registered Shorthorn cattle from Missouri along with a small group of registered cows from a very reputable herd in Western Montana. By early 2009 we were able to buy another group of registered cattle from a Shorthorn breeder in Southwestern Minnesota. We feel with the combined herd, we have an excellent genetic base to start producing cattle with natural fleshing ability and great maternal traits, with the commercial cattleman in mind. Whether it be a herd bull or replacement breeding stock, JDMC feels it can meet your needs. We are very proud and honored to donate a heifer for the 2009 Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Program at the Minnesota Beef Expo on behalf of the Minnesota Shorthorn Association.

They are anxious to welcome a new little Krueger to the family this fall as Paul and Cassie are expecting their first child.
Thanks to the Krueger Farms for promoting Simmental genetics in such a meaningful way!
SOUTH DEVON
Northern States South Devon Association.
The Northern States South Devon Association (NSSDA) was formed 15 years ago by a small group of South Devon breeders in central-Minnesota. An active and enthusiastic group of South Devon producers from six states currently promote South Devon cattle throughout the Midwest, by participating in farm shows, 4-H & FFA activities, and Junior shows. A strong Junior association participates each year at the Minnesota Beef Expo. Members from the association have strongly supported the Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Program (MYBEP) by donating a South Devon heifer each year to a deserving junior. All of the past recipients of South Devon heifers are active members in the North American South Devon Junior Association.
In 2007 a group of the members within the Northern States Association decided to combine donated funds to make available to the winner of the MYBEP, so the recipient of the South Devon heifer could purchase the animal out of the South Devon sale. This allowed the recipient the opportunity to choose from the sale offering and also gave them an educational experience by providing them with performance data and pedigree information to aid in their selection of an animal. The NSSDA will give the 2009 MYBEP recipient of the South Devon heifer the same opportunity.
The NSSDA members are proud to have been a part of the Minnesota Beef Expo for the past nine years and especially honored to have been a part of the MYBEP since its inception.
MYBEP Education & Information Seminar

Youth who apply for the 2009 MYBEP are eligible to attend this workshop. Sessions are developed to enhance a junior's ability to begin and prosper with their own herd of cattle and will be presented by industry and educational professionals along with leading cattleman. The Minnesota State Cattleman's Association will donate an additional heifer to one attendee of this workshop. Additionally, four passes will be awarded to the Minnesota Cattleman's conference held in December.
The purpose the MYBEP is to aid youth in getting a start in the beef cattle business by awarding heifer calves to program participants on the basis of merit, need, future goals, and ability to care for the animal. Any youth aged 12 to 16 who is a 4-H or FFA member may apply.
