Minnesota Beef Experience Program (2010 Recipients)

Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Program (MYBEP) The Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Program (MYBEP) awarded heifer calves to seven FFA and 4-H youth. Each winner is responsible for raising, breeding and maintaining complete records on care of the animal while providing monthly progress reports to the original owner and the Minnesota Beef Expo. Failure to adequately follow these requirements during the course of the year when it is owned in partnership may cause the program participant to forfeit their ownership of the animal.

The 2010 recipients were:

Kaylen Weidert, Canby MN, was awarded the Angus heifer donated Country Lane Farm, Scott & Mia Bayer, Ringle WI, on behalf of the Minnesota Angus Association.

Samantha Dahlke, Glencoe MN, was awarded the Charolais heifer donated by Laumann Charolais, Gerry & Debbie Laumann, Mayer MN, on behalf of the MN/WI Charolais Association.

Madeline Schultz, Faribault MN, was awarded the Commercial heifer donated by DarLynn Cattle Company, Dar & Lynn Giess, Pierz MN, and Lyon River Front Farm, Allen & Anna Lyon, Foley MN.

Jordan Bergan, Peterson MN was awarded the Hereford heifer donated by Springwater Herefords, Troy & Chad Williamson, Garretson SD, on behalf of the Minnesota Hereford Association.

Amy Grotsun, Cold Spring MN, was awarded the Limousin heifer donated by Eagle Pass Ranch, Roger & Nancy Wagner and Family of Hillman MN, on behalf of the Minnesota Limousin Association.

Emma Ulmer, Lake Park MN, was awarded the Shorthorn heifer donated by Top Notch Stock Farm, Lynn & Gale Nelson, Albert Lea MN, on behalf of the Minnesota Shorthorn Association.

Micayla Christopher, Decorah IA, was awarded the Simmental heifer donated by Oak Meadow Farms, Dr. Lynn & Barb Aggen and family, Harmony, MN, on behalf of the Minnesota Simmental Association.

Jacob Lehmann, Detroit Lakes MN, was awarded the South Devon heifer donated by the Northern States South Devon Association, Bay City WI.

Paige Netzke, Lamberton MN, was awarded a Commercial heifer purchased with funds received from the AgStar Fund for Rural America grant. Mentor is Mark Purfeerst, Faribault MN.

Thomas Duff, Hampton MN, was awarded a Limousin heifer donated by the Minnesota Corn Growers and the Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association. Mentor is Dar Giess of Pierz MN.

Megan Kokett, Evansville MN, was awarded a heifer donated by the Minnesota Angus Purple Ribbon Group. Mentors are Brian Goihl, Lake City MN and Tim Sullivan, Kellogg MN.

This program aids youth starting out in the beef cattle business by awarding heifer calves on the basis of merit, need, future goals and ability to care for the animal. Any youth aged 12 to 16 who is a 4-H or FFA member may apply.
