The Minnesota Beef Expo is a yearly roundup for cattlemen, cattlewomen and youth throughout the state, gathering to celebrate and promote the beef industry. The event provides a unique opportunity for cattle producers and beef-specific agribusiness to take part in the largest beef industry event in the upper Midwest.
The Ninth Annual Minnesota Beef Expo, held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Thursday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, was a great success, and we are thrilled to be able to share the results, along with pictures.
Breeders and youth from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska attended the four-day event, which included a judging contest, a showmanship competition, an Extreme Make-over Contest, cattle sales and a junior show with approximately 550 head of livestock competing for over $10,000 in prize money. In a relaxed friendly atmosphere, livestock enthusiasts from all breeds worked together and achieved the results of our most successful Minnesota Beef Expo!
Sale cattle competed for $6750 in prize money as Breed Champions at the 6th Annual Supreme Row Sale Female and Steer Selection Saturday, Oct. 19. Major sponsors for this year’s sale event were again Minnesota Farm Guide, Agri-Media Livestock Group with Land O’ Lakes Purina Feed and Alpharma Animal Health.
Other Beef Expo activities included a showmanship competition sponsored by the Minnesota Corn Growers, MN State Fair Foundation, Andis Clippers and Images Embroidery. This year, thanks to the MN Soybean Research & Promotion Council, a free Grab-n-Go dinner was again provided following showmanship. The University of Minnesota Beef Team helped serve the meal to over 500 hungry exhibitors. Friday also provided a judging contest sponsored by Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation and the “Extreme Makeover: Beef Expo Style” competition sponsored by Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council & hosted by the U of M Beef Team. The four day event wouldn’t be complete with out breed sales, a club calf sale, a youth heifer and steer show, Seedstock Alley and trade show exhibits.
